Keeping your Apartment Clean

The last thing you want to do when you get home is clean, especially after a long day at work! Cleaning is unavoidable when you want an apartment that isn’t cluttered and dirty, so schedule out some time during your week to get cleaning. In this week’s Heritage Court Apartments Blog, we’ve got a few cleaning tips to make your Ewing, NJ apartment sparkle!

Schedule a Time

Finding a convenient time to clean can be a difficult task, but it’s the first step in a cleaner apartment. Usually, we neglect to make time for keeping our apartment clean, so when we set time aside, we can get many things done! Since it’s difficult to get into cleaning after a long day when you’re exhausted, try scheduling a time during the weekend when you have the most free time.

Declutter

It’s normal to have things lying around in your home, but those things can make your apartment seem smaller and even dirtier than it is. Take some time to go through your home with a basket or trash bag and place unwanted items in them, then set it aside to be thrown away or donated. Picking items to be removed from your apartment can be difficult, but don’t make excuses! If you haven’t used it in a year, the chances of you needing it are low so you can remove it from your life. If at all possible, don’t throw usable items in the trash, donate them instead. Doing so will give those items new life with people who will actually use them.

Maintain

The most difficult part of cleaning and decluttering your apartment is making sure that it remains clean! Take some time each day or week to clean up. We recommend a daily dose of cleaning so that the task doesn’t pile up during the week! Find an organization system that works for you, and stick to it! Put things back where they belong immediately and don’t leave dishes in the sink for days at a time. The small and simple things like making your bed in the morning before you leave can make a difference in how your apartment feels when you return home.
